Do any of you longtimers remember David McLure from Tallapoosa, Ga. David started running at the Dallas track in 1955 in a new Buick and then later in a 34 Ford coupe. In 1967 he bought a new British racing green 396 ci., 375 hp camaro. He ran it every time the track opened and he intensionaly blew the motor before the warranty was out and paid the difference for a 427 ci.replacement. The 427 was torn down and built before going back in the car and a good friend of his,Bobby Wood, did the machine work. David made his living building motors for other people. He retired from racing in 1973 but he says that he still held two track records when the track closed in maybe c/stock and d/modified production. David is critically ill now and I go by to see him every couple of weeks and talk cars and dragracing with him and it really picks him up. If anyone remembers him or the green camaro let me know and I will pass it on to him, Qh his son has the camaro and is restoring it.
